The sky is a shelf is a painted installation comprising of 3D-printed sculpture from new plastic material and found compostable and scrap bumper plastic created as a direct response to a two-line poem written by the artist. The painted imagery was produced by means of a custom bitmap that combines rhombille patterning and the molecular structure of the compostable plastic (polylactic acid, or PLA) and the purchased plastic (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, or ABS)—both commonly used 3D printing materials.
